Recovery Run - 5 Miles

Tonight the schedule called for a 5 mile easy recovery run. I was quite happy running nice and easy this evening. This is the third recovery run that I've done within the schedule and making a comparison between them is interesting.

June 27th - 8.54 min/mile - Av. HR 144bpm
June 29th - 8.59 min/mile - Av. HR 150bpm
July 4th - 8.51 min/mile - Av. HR 138bpm

An easy run for me should be at a maximum average HR of 140bpm. Tonight's Recovery Run is by far the best in the sense that, I had a faster min/mile pace and a much lower HR compared to the other two. Whatever is going on I seem to be getting faster for a lower HR. I'm still really surprised that my aerobic fitness has decreased so much for the sake of two weeks off injured. I really didn't expect that much of a loss relative to my previous pace for the same HR. Perhaps there was something else wrong and I just haven't figured it out yet. Anyway, the key point is that tonight's run was much more of a recovery run then either of the two previous runs I did.

So it seems I'm making progress, and my persistence in sticking with the HR's no matter how slow I have to run to do it is paying dividends. And no reason why it shouldn't, it worked before and no reason to expect it not to work again for me.

Tonights run...........
