I arrived a bit earlier then usual at the club tonight so that I could get out for a 9 mile run which the schedule called for. If I went out with some of the others I'd end up running too fast and just end up shattered for my Long Run on Saturday. I'm struggling to fit it in this Saturday as I've got another commitment to fulfil, but that's another storey.
It was raining as I set off and part of the route is through a field, so I wasn't sure just how soggy it might get, but it was fine as it turned out. A bit of mud never hurt anyone, right??? The start of the route I took is quite a long uphill climb so I was looking forward to the downhill, but to be honest, it was so slippy on the downhill I couldn't make the most of it for fear of taking a tumble.
I felt good tonight, I feel I'm getting my pace back, tonight's run would have been a lot better if I was running a flat course but I'm happy with my overall performance given the hilly nature of the course. I managed 8.33 min/mile pace for an average HR of 151bpm. On a flat course, it would have been much better I'm sure. I passed other small groups from the club all doing their own sessions tonight. The faster guys were heading for the hills, so I'm glad I didn't join them, I'd be knackered if I had. Some of the ladies were doing our club 10k route in reverse. Part of my course was on the 10k route as well.
Tomorrow another nice easy 5 mile recovery run, in preparation for my 17 mile long run on Saturday.
